Is that what I sound like?

ree

As we get older, man and woman, our voices begin to change. We may be complimented on our voices by others, saying they are soothing or nice. While I've been trying to work on the audiobook, during the recording I have fun - trying different sounds and tones. Different pacing and changing sentence structures for flow.

During my first recording session, I was having a ball until I decided to play it back for someone else. I found myself visibly cringing and scattering to try and find a part that I liked to show them, just to be dismayed that it didn't sound as good as I thought.

It was then, I found that I didn't like the sound of my own voice after hearing the playback. My recording devices have sat almost unused since. As if taunting me to try again, just to get the same result. This is called Vocal confrontation. It is where you don't like the sound of your own voice.

After a lifetime I've being told that my voice sounds like a multitude of things: my siblings, my mother, a random girl that met on the street. I wouldn't call myself shy, but I've definitely been shying away from the audiobook thanks to this.

I debated hiring a professional, however at this time I can't afford to. Maybe in the future that will be something I can do but for now, I will continue to try and confront it.

Though I admit, it may take a considerable amount of time.

Keep Breathing Life,

Sheridan
